Here is the back side of the adapter to manifold gasket I made using thin non-corrugated cardboard from a felpro intake gasket set packaging hehee. The two surfaces are really smooth so the thin cardboard should seal fine. This is the same material that I'm using on my 3100 TB to seal to the TCE adapter right now, and it holds fine.
Here is the correct gasket sitting on the adapter. It's a ROL, but it has the FelPro part/n stamped in it... I could have cut my own out of the same cardboard or gasket material, but with the IAC chamber there and all that stuff I figured the silicone they put on the gasket will help seal that complicated area better, and for $1.06 out the door it saves me some time/cardboard! The bottom section there that the bolt hole to the manifold is showing is just for coolant to heat the TB, so no worries about that area there as it's not used in our application.

The correct P/N is:
ROL: CM55567
Fel-Pro: 61304
The other P/N's that come up are a rubber o-ring for some other part of the intake. Apparently stock TB bolts up to an adapter and uses a paper gasket (what we need) and then the adapter bolts up with an o-ring to the intake manifold.
Oddly on OReilly's site they list the CM55567 as "EXHAUST ACCESSORIES - TBI GASKET (02-99 OLDS 3.5L)".... LOL exhaust accessory? No wonder the parts guy didn't see it as a selection. Ordering by part numbers FTW! |
Correct, I forgot to give out the P/N in my last post. I made the mistake the first time of having them order in the "TB to manifold gasket" which was the O-ring. The correct part is the "TB to adapter" gasket (61304). I've got all the parts together at home but haven't touched the car since I got home from the bash.

Well I won't know if my kPa goes above 92 until I drive it, as if you just rev it idling you can hit 99. I did with the 65mm. I did the 52mm and got to 96 but didn't sit there and try to hit 99 so I'm gonna have to drive it to see that.
It did sound freaking wicked though. Sounds like a DOHC or something motor now. I expected it to be deeper but its got a BRAAAPP BRAAAPP fast rev sound to it. Lets more sound through that's for sure.
Everything works fine except the air cleaner tube is really, really smashed now and collapses. So I'll need metal CAI stuff and couplers for that. And of course the cable bracket. I put up the stock 3100 one with the bottom bolt and it looks like if you re-bend the top so that it can rotate more the cables will be lined up perfect, and then you could bend it to bolt up to the top bolt of the TB. The distance of the cables using the stock bracket was perfect, 0% throttle and with the pedal to the floor 100% open. So I will be getting another 3100 bracket to bend up, and if that doesn't work then I'll cut out the cable holding part of it and weld it to the LX5 bracket, and then cut that bracket and move the cables to the right distance. TPS needed some adjusting but that was easy just take it off and fiddle with it. I had that issue before on a 3100 TB with the TPS reading 2% instead of 0. Easy to fix, or just replace the TPS since it's the same p/n. Looks like a new one was on there as there as the thread locker was broke loose already.
Here are some pics.
I still need to clean it up more, it's pretty dirty though the pics show it shining. I will get it BLING BLINGing yo!!
I took a bunch of videos, I will stitch them together and put it on youtube or something. Might wait for the finished part as it's sort of a how-to.

That looks very nice. I can't wait to get my throttle body. I ordered it from a salvage yard for $25. It should get here Wedsday.
So the 3100 braket can be modified to work. That's good to hear, because GM wants like $36 for a 3.5 one.

I believe so. Only thing is that the cable comes out the bottom instead of coming out and going upwards. So there is less of the cable in the shoe horn. I can't see that affecting anything other than perhaps if the cable gets some slack in it from hitting the throttle on/off fast it might slip out of the shoe horn channel or something... I'll have to look at it further.

I recieved my 65mm tb today! Horray Car-Part.com! I got it for $35 shipped with the sensors intact and not that dirty. Now I just gotta mock up the cable braket and get the gaskets for it.

That is clean.
Anyone have any comments on having the cables enter down low?
The cables won't be coming out and upwards so the wire won't be wrapped around the shoehorn all the way, just like 1/2 to 1/3 inside the shoehorn channel...
Will this cause any issue?

There may be a leverage problem with it not using the entire shoe-horn. This may cause excessive pedal effort and a on/off feeling. My 70mm tb was like that and I just add a piece of steel to create more leverage with the cable.
I was thinking about just grinding that tab down and removing the plastic "shoe-horn" and replacing it with a metal one from a 3100/3400 tb. Then you would just rotate it as needed and weld it to the shaft.

Just don't get the shaft so hot you cook the bearings.
I had it mounted half assed, with the cable not perfectly centered cause the top of the 3100 bracket didn't let it center up, and the pedal effort was easy. You could feel it rub cause the cable wasn't centered, but that shouldn't be an issue once it's properly mounted.

The welding would have to be very carefully done to keep the heat down. A quite tack, then let it cool, then tack again. It doesnt neccessarily have to be a full weld, just a few tacks to keep it from falling off.
Maybe the bracket just needs a little more bending to line it up better. I'll have to experiment with it. I may have to redesign the whole throttle linkage for it to work on my Fiero.

Well, the reason it wasn't dead on is because I couldn't rotate it because the top of the bracket that normally bolts to the manifold was hitting the top of the TB. Bend that away, and back around to bolt up to the top bolt on the TB, and you're good to go then. Just the cables enter towards the bottom instead of down from the top like the LX5 bracket is.

Well I was going to get some 3100 TB cable brackets from someone to modify up but he can't find them yet, may not have them anymore. So no progress yet on this unfortunately. Anyone else get theirs on?

I got mine on and working 100%. I ended up using the 3100 bracket and tapping a hole in the throttlebody itself. It was very easy, just cut part of the bracket off, hammer it flat, then drill a hole and tap it.
I'll get a pic today and post it sometime today/tonight.

Pics for sure! I think I can get it just by bending, but seeing what others have done is always good.
Does the pedal feel stiff or is the angle of approach not matter? I don't think it will even with it being lower than it is stock on the TB.
