Boiling brake fluid is a cause of brake fade.

Brake fluid will boil when the caliper hits a certain temp (depending on what type of fluid you're using), which is caused by the friction material (pad) overheating on the rotor. The idea behind brake ducting is to keep the rotor cooler, therefore reducing the pad temp, which will keep the fluid temp down. So, technically, you're both right.

But, you will hit friction brake fade before fluid brake fade every time (unless for some reason your brake lines are being heated).

I have installed brake cooling ducts on previous cars. The last one I did it to was my 2002 Hyundai Accent that I tracked (don't laugh, I actually was the fastest FWD car there, but my Accent also had the least amount of hp!).

I ran a hose from each the factory fog light holes that didn't come with fog lights. I zip tied the hose to the unibody, then to the control arm on each side. The hose ended about 1/2" away from the brake caliper.

I ran Motul 600 RBF brake fluid (598 degree dry boiling point) and Axxis Metal Master brake pads.

With this setup, once a bit of heat got into the brakes the car stopped on a dime and I never experianced brake fade on any of the 20 minute hot lap heats accept for one time. I had a zip tie fail due to the high tempurature that the control arm got up to. I knew I had a problem when I hit the brakes and the car pulled HARD to one side. The brake fluid had boiled in one side causing brake fade, but the other side was still good.

Here's a picture of that car at Hallett in Oklahoma.

I've been looking at doing the same thing to Wagonstein as I will eventually be tracking it.
