Ok you sold me,.... I think i'm going to do this setup on my 86 rather than the 3800 S/C. I was looking at the 3800 in hopes of more power than the 3400, but this has very effectively changed my mind. I'm also looking at VFN Fiberglass for the front clip, doors, decklid, and other misc parts, and am going to do other things to eliminate weight. What prices should I be looking for on the 3400, and what would be an optimum year/model to obtain the 3400 from. *Back to topic* Thats a killer setup man and I'm very impressed, I may be looking to you with questions about the "Project Insanity" '86 Z24.

Thanks Gerzy. There are some new exterior shots of my car in my regristry that show the polished 3rd gen wheels a little better. Hard to even see they are polished on the vid.

The 3400's are all the same, if I'm not mistaken. I paid $700 for the engine currently in my car, which had 56k miles on it. I plan to upgrade the pistons in it in the near future to better handle the stresses of nearly double the factory HP (my first 3400 broke a piston skirt after about 13k street miles and 20 or so mid-12 second drag strip passes).

Not all 3400s are the same, remember now.

Get a pre-2003 and you will be fine. 2004 and up have a different crank which is not compatible with OBD1

Wrong, that is only the Envoy, or what ever that SUV is that is different. The rest of thew 2004 3400 crank trigger is the convention 7x.

Really? I have not heard of this.

What's the crank difference?

The crank has a 57x reluctor wheel, which we cant use. Unless you want to take off the old wheel and weld a new one on, it wont work with a factory ecm. An aftermarket ecm is a different story however.

Thanks Weston.

Is that the same x reluctor wheel that the 3500 uses?

Heads were apparently revised in 2003.

Note: Revised doesn't necessarily mean improved since this is GM
