I got a new F40 6 speed from 2006 Pontiac G6 gtp, you can find them at
car-part.com for $400 bucks new. Shifter and cables from 2007 G6, jackshaft same car ,I also got original dualmass flywheel and clutch in case i need it , i paid $200 for those parts when i went to michigan to pick up the trany. Axles are from 2006 G6, cost for both $200. The axles shafts are 3" to long , i had them cut sleved and welded for now, i am geting new custom length axles from RCV perfomance any day now. I don't trust cut+welded axles . New ones are gurantied against brakeage. The trany mount i used the stock one but did some modifications to it, same with the trany braket stock but more modifying. The spindels came from 1999 - 2005 grand am , the hub bearing from grand am is direct fit for G6 axles. Spidles and grand am balljoints are direct bolt on . I used clutch master and line from 2000-2005 cavalier, the line is direct plugin . here are more pictures

For future reference the axles from the Cobalt SS and Saturn redline (boosted models) are a better direct fit as they are a little shorter than the G6 axles. The downside is that they use a female ended jackshaft that has a different mounting flange than what the G6 shaft has and would need to be adapted to the mount.

Otherwise the axles are a direct fit for the Fiero having the same number and size outboard splines. They may have changed the spline size/count in the latest years so it may or may not be necessary to swap out the outboard joint as an assembly, or just the cup if the bearings are the same size and the shaft spline count is different.

The Z24 due to its relatively small size probably has the same hub spline count as the Fiero.

Cobalt axles are still to long for the cavalier.. Some pictures of the car
Had no idea the track width was so narrow for the cavalier, 53.6", be careful around corners, wouldn't want you to turn over.

58" for the cobalt
59.3" for the Fiero rear
59.6" for the G6

I use the stock G6 assembly on the passenger side but sent my driverside G6 axle to Moser racing to be shortened and resplined.

That by the way is an inexpensive and dependable option as cutting and resplining costs about $150 for a pair of axles. You just have to start with an axle that isn't tapered below the needed diameter comming out of the joint.

Good starting pieces would be the long manual axle from the Fiero and some Chyrsler Concord axles. A custom set the last time I checked runs about $300.

I tried a cut and welded axle once but it didn't last (behind a 350 Fiero).

The first gear feels the same as in the 5 speed, brembo brakes i don't think you can do the swap using stock spindle but not impasible, i used the grand am spindles , some modifications to rotor and spindle, like expanding bolt patern on rotor , expanding holes in spindle for caliper to bolt in. Picture of my new axle shafts from RCV performance guaranted against brakeage
