you guys are great help regardless of how many thoughts i share on here to myself
but i checked my parts store for 88 sunbird gt injectors and radiator.....
the rad was $145 and the injectors were $53 a piece
and do you guys have any recommendations for intercooler size and brand?
and the same for bov's....
thanks for everything so far
i'm plannin on comin home today with the turbo and manifold |
Well Like i said you might want to look into a 3.1 rad... cause it will drop your engine temp more then the 88 rad will. 53$ for what size injectors? I have a XSpower intercooler. Its bigger then my rad lol and its inlets / outlets are 3" ...... you dont need that big , mine is way over kill but im going to need it. Something like 2.5 inlet /outlet 460mm X 160mm X 90mm http://xs-power.com/nissan-single-intercoolers-2.htm <<<something like that one....BOV area everyone has their own opinion on what they think is better and what not so you might want to look into what everyone says and do your own research. Hopefully everything goes well with that turbo _________________

ok well i'm headin to pick up the turbo in about 30 minutes
i'm pumped lol
but will the 3.1 rad drop in and bolt up to my cooling system?
i thought somebody said it was upside down compared to the 4 cyl..
and for intercoolers that size is about where i'm gonna go then
and for a BOV i'm still researching into them _________________

just got home from picking up my turbo (and girlfriend lol)
its in pretty nice condition
pretty clean
very little play in the fan
all the goodies to hook it up
but i think the 4 bolts for the manifold aren't with it and the 2 bolts that hook up to the downpipe aren't with it either
but those should be easy to get
oh and i got a free intercooler too
the guy gave it to me cause he had like 300 of them
its for a volkswagon of some kind
pretty nice, needs some attention
but its dual core and pretty beefy
thanks for the help and be sure i'll need some more in the next few months _________________

V6 radiator not like 2.0 'Bird radiator. Very, very different. Inlet and outlet on opposite sides. 88 - 89 2.0 3 core bird radiator does a helluva job cooling.
I don't buy new injectors unless there's absolutely no choice. Look for injectors sized between 27 and 30 lbs/hr on Ebay. Or try Lindertech. They've been around for years and they do a great job with reconditioning.
Plan ahead. The factory turbo cars return turbo oil into the block. The boss is cast in all blocks, but it's not drilled or tapped in N/A engines. You'll either need to add a return to the block or rig something up with the pan or fill pipe.
Good luck. |

Yes the rad will fit, but the inlet and outlet are in the wrong locations. The upper rad hose is on the left side on a 2.0 and the upper on a v6 is on the right. _________________

Umm mine's the factory 2.0 turbo still, (for the moment) the oil return line from the turbo, goes to the pan not the block. _________________

Nope, it doesn't. Check again... it goes to a cast boss just above the pan directly below the turbo. There's no different pan for the turbo engine in 1990.
The hole in the block, center, is factory oil return. The fitting on the pan to the lower left of the factory return was added for a different turbo.
You can read that the fitting was added:
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2138652
"just welded the wastegate shut LOL. 32 Lbs of boost later at spikes and a bad oil return line (we tapped the oil pan too low below the oil line so it didnt recirculate until the front end lifted aka BOOST !!) "
Notice the hole's not there in Decyphex's engine (image shamelessly stolen)?
I've been down this road several times. |

No reason you can't put the return in the pan. Many, many turbo installs do it like this. I have no idea what that guy was trying to say with boost spikes due to improper placement. If the oil can't get back to the pan you end up with blue smoke as the oil gets pushed into the exhaust past the turbo oil seals.

what are other ways of getting oil to it?

Getting oil to the turbo....? Drill hole in a boss on the oil pump, tap/thread it, get brake line and run to turbo. Get flaring tool, get correct size fitting for other end of brake line, put it on brake line, flare end, thread into turbo. Oh and I forgot the bending part. Get a brake line bending tool and bend/organize/route the line how you want it under the hood.
Getting it out.....? Well basically what Shannen was saying. Either drill out the boss in the block (if it isn't already) or run it straight into the oil pan. I'll be doing the oil pan personally.

well today i'm goin to clean up all my parts and try to get some pics up of everything
thanks for the advice so far
i really appreciate it
after inspecting the intercooler further.......i found that it was made in germany for Audi and VW's with turbos......its dual core and honestly prolly close to 4 inches deep, prolly 6 or 7 inches tall and about 14 inches wide....pretty beefy....
the inlet and outlets are on the same side....dunno if that's better or worse and it has a few holes for mounting
but like i said i'll have pics up later today _________________
