I just looked at the donation link. I had no clue it cost so much to run a site like this. I will donate as soon as I can , I really enjoy coming here if not for the information for the laughs.

get a donating member icon under your avatar and depending on the $$$ donated the color will change. Plus you get all the information you would ever need about your j body and make countless amounts of friends here as well.

$1,200 a year seems HIGH AS HELL! We (Desired Image) pay $118 per year for hosting and I think $10 or so for the name DesiredImageFlint.com

I can't see why they charge you so much.

I'm sorry, it is $118 per EVERY 2 YEARS, so about $60 a year in hosting costs.

how much traffic does your site have? remember this is a site with well over 15,000 members, although we know that so many have never even posted.... so give it 25% of that.

that's still almost 4000 people coming and going constantly, posting pics, using bandwidth, etc etc. i mean check out the stats link on your control bar on the site. there's always at the very least, a couple people who post 100+ times a week.....

I wasn't calling him out, I was saying that it SEEMS WAY TOO HIGH!

And since you ask, here is some info for you.

JBODY.org only has a traffic rating of 2.

And here is your answer to how many hits per day.
http://desiredimageflint.com/webalizer/
Being a Car Club website, most of our traffic is in the warmer months, esp being that we set up links to our site for our annual car show.

Also our Messageboard (forums) are NOT a part of DesiredImageFlint.com, so all that traffic is from people actually looking at and using the site.

So 1,724 Average Daily Hits in the month of February is not too bad.

We're getting over 200,000 "hits" on average daily. I have a dedicated server for the site (which is why it is over $100/mo), since I got booted off a shared hosting plan before for using to much server resources.

He has to have a server colo'd because of the amount of traffic/server load/bandwidth. Even with my connections (I have a friend that owns a large colo facility in Columbus, Ohio) I'd still be paying at least $600/year to have him put a box in one of his racks and hook it up. It's more to have it monitored.

A lot of people don't realize how much traffic and server load that a site with a PHP forum will generate. I'm starting to see a handful of hosting companies frowning on sites with forums due to the amount of post spam on improperly configured forums that overworks their machines and chews up their bandwidth.

He's not getting ripped off...$100/mo is about the going rate to have a colocation box hosted unless you know someone who's willing to host you at a discount. Bandwidth is expensive and rack space is usually at a premium. Not to mention all the other costs associated with a network operations center.

Why are we arguing over how much it costs? Ignore it and lets donate some more!

I'll send some later today.

Having spent many years in the hosting business, $100/month is a helluva deal for the apparent quality of service the end users see here.

Of course, many other things factor into the cost - the quality of the data center, quality of power, accessibility (if any), "support" if you can't get access, the level and type of connectivity, peering, blah, blah blah..

I don't know what Jason's experience with the people are, but the site sure doesnt see much downtime.

- Frank

Believe me... if spending less on this site was an option, we'd be all over it!

Its amazing that we have this many members & only a few of you are actually worth the money we spend.... we could save so much if we shut this place down & just sent a few extra christmas cards each year!

(I'm kidding, btw! I wouldn't actually send those cards!)

Why take it personal? I was concerned as if Jason was gettin ripped off. I never implied that he was taking advantage of us.
