So, I repainted my intake mani, cam cover and a few other tidbits.
I taped the silver part though, and now i'd like to polish it up and possibly my turbo too.
I did a test patch with 120 grit sandpaper, and it smoothed it out and gave it a much better shine.
Is there a better way to do this?
Anybody have experience polishing by hand?

i do... it's not too fun, especially if it's something other than a flat surface.

basically, start at like 400 if it's a rough surface, maybe 800 if it's smoothish. work that until it's nice and smooth, and go over it with 1000 grit till the 4/800 scratches are gone. then do the same thing with 2000 for the 1000 scratches. then buff to a shine.

easier way is sand the rough spots down with 400, hit it for a bit with 800, then go to town with a buffer instead of by hand

Well they are mostly flat, but curved, still a flat surface though.
I will get some higher grit sand paper then.
It doesn't matter if it isn't fun, I need something to do over thanksgiving break.
I'll post pics later.

its aloooootttt of work... for rough stuff start as low of a grit as u can to get the roughness out, and do wat damen said. buffer saves so much time!

So, here are some pics for everybody.
Finished the polishing.
Went 220, 400, 800.
Turned out pretty good.
I might go back and do it with something higher, but i dont think it'll make a difference on these parts, maybe the turbo though.
Painted the intake and cam cover blue, they look darker on the camera than in person, but I hope it isn't too ford for my GM.
Haha.
ps- i did blue because my IC couplers are blue, my BOV is blue and i figured what the hell.

Thanks guys.
I might do the 2.0L, but not today.
I ran outta time home, so it might stay red for a bit.
It would be hard to paint i think, but we'll see what happens.
now I gotta polish the turbo and put the engine back together...

I dont think it would be that hard, just tape around it and if you get any paint on anything you dont want, just sand it off. Or paint it with a thin brush. More pics though
