So yeah, I decided I could do a thread on my engine "rebuild" It's not really a rebuild, its just fixing the broken piston, gap ring for boost and upgrade valves springs. Of course, brand new gaskets while I'm at it and port and polish both intakes and heads.

I know I already posted a few of thoses pics but I think it would be better to have everything in one thread.

Reassembling pics will follow, deadline is around july 15th, to have the engine all back and running, but hopefully it will be before that

Start to take everything apart, nothing looks fucked yet

Started the porting on the plenum

Modified the tb so it doesnt have the tb heater connection anymore, I don't use them anyway, they are just taking precious space in my already full of crap engine bay.

Painted and polished lot of stuff while I'm at it.

Ok, I think I found the problem

Even some chunk of metal in the head, sweet

Spark plug that have been hit by some chunk of piston I guess

Close up of fucked piston (#4)

To gap ring for boost, you first put the ring into the cylinder (use corresponding cylinder and ring, so its gapped properly for each cylinder since some cylinder can have be a little different, same for ring)

Make the piston upside down in the cylinder so the ring is square.

The stock gap of the ring

Use a feeler gauge to see if the gap of the ring is what you want, continue grinding if it's not.

And this is my ring grinding tool, works perfect, and cheap enough, with stuff that I already had. No need to pay 50-70$ for a ring gapping tool I will use once in my life

hopefully I dont run into the ring gap issue with mine. Im getting ready to up the boost to 12psi daily....with meth/alcohol injection and if I get brave Ill shoot for 15psi at the track on race fuel. Badly need some better rubber though as street tires just dont cut it for me anymore. 12sec 1/4miles here I come!

"new" pistons and connecting rods are in Oil pan, starter and all that shit back on too. Just need the subframe back (once I get my poly sway bar bushings, probably friday) and I will be able to work on the top end and make it run next week

Yeah, the bottom end isn't really something you want to assemble while drunk.

Hopefully everything turns out OK.
