its an 89 Z24 5 speed, 298,038 miles on car, unknown milage of engine
when u take the breather cap off u can hear a really loud noise that goes with rpm, its lik a screech, like tee tee tee tee tee tee, and theres alot of air rushing out of the breather cap hole that is consistent with the noise.... car seems to run decent, lacking some power tho.
any ideas? i can hear it faintly threw the valve cover its coming all the way at the other end by cylinder 2. |

Noisy rockers or lifters. Try thicker oil. _________________

| Cavalier 3400 is probably right about it being noisy lifters but I would pull the valve cover and fire it up to make sure they are all getting oil. At idle the oil ozzes out of the push rods with no real force. That will also show you if anything is sticking and causing your noise. |

oil passages may be blocked happened to my vert cleaned the passages and did a oil flush 5buks and new oil/filter no more noises
get this taken care of or push rods wear out and can break the 3400 i am in process of prepping had rods broken stuck to the rockers its bad _________________

I don't know what you mean by breather cap. You mean the oil fill cap? Assuming that, if you have a lot of air rushing out and a lack of power, you probably are having excessive blow-by.
All engines will have a little blow-by (because the rings can't make a perfect seal), which is supposed to be removed by the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation). If your PCV valve is clogged, that may be responsible for some of the air coming out, but it sounds like you have way higher than normal blow-by and combined with the lack of power and your engine possibly having 300,000 miles on it says to me your piston rings are probably shot. |

i checked the pcv, i replaced it even tho it was still good, oil looks old, ill do an oil change on it tomorow with 10w30 see what happens, its not alot of air rushing out its more then it should i think, and the sounds isnt a ticking or tapp... its weird never heard anything like it before.... its like a screech like tee tee tee tee tee tee with RPM... it def sounds like valve train related.....
also i did a compression test today and 2 4 6, 2 had 100 psi.. 4 and 6 both had 190 psi? thought that was odd, shouldnt it be around 150???
this is why i cant wait to just get my 3400 finished and get it the &%@# in already.... but $ is holding me up
the motor i settled on has 55,023 miles and is $800, its from a 2003 Grand AM GT. car was hit HARD in the back, motor is complete and ran fine when towed in the yard back in 2010... |
