is it actually overheating..or just getting warmer?...if its actually overheating, i'd say your fan is phucked

if its only getting warmer, its normal

X2 on the fan, but if your thermostat is constantly open your car should take like forever to heat up

lets see at idle engine is under 1k rpms so the coolant isnt flowing as much as if you were driving the car, also as you are driving air is cooling the radiator which is cooling the coolant. Why not just run a themostat? also fan come on when it should? temp gauge accurate?

Im sure the gauge is right cause when it reads over 200 I start to smell burning oil off the block and stuff and not only that but you can feel the heat in the floor pan.

2 there was no thermostat in I just looked so I put one in no difference. It boils coolant out the box with the lid just spits it out. So I checked for bad head gasket and the oil never boiled nor is it thin it just took about 15 seconds under a lighter and cought fire to the dipstick so oil is clean.

Im not losing coolant during use either light does not come on so I didnt think so anyways.

Fan does come on it was running while the temp was climing.

Im thinking its got a block in it somewhere or needs flushed realy good.

What does it sound like?

Also I have a idle climb takes it a minute but then it starts slowly going up. I knocked on the MAP/MAF on the firewall no chance pinched the hose nothing differenent unpluged the EGR nothing unpluged the vacuum on the EGR slight change nothing made a huge difference. Change them both?

I mean the line looked pretty rusty inside when I opened up the thermostat.

The old wrecked Z i took the thermostat out of was spoltless inside just about still could see the bluish looking seal where the thermostat seats like it was new and just ver pin head size rust spots.

So anymore ideas?

flush the coolant system out with a garden hose. radiator might be clogged up. its also a pain to bleed the jbody coolant systems at times, you might have an air bubble stuck in the system, but if that were the case i'd think you'd overheat while moving also.

Its holding pressure its brand new one of the clamp down kind. Ill test it at works till though.

But I didnt run a hose with a spray nozel and sprayed down the engine intake on the coolant system and had the cap off and well not much overflow came out of the top line where the feedback into the tank is.

Found out also having the pressure on the system that the metal hose on the font of the engine where it met the rubber line back into the tank was about rusted shut and broke so a drip leak was going on. So I changed the lines out and put pressure back on. Got alot more out of the lines. I also hooked up the hose with that line off to see how much sprayed out the metal cap over the thermostat and it was free flowing.

So I filled it up with water started her up and worked out the air bubbles put the cap on and it took pressure. It got warmed up hit 220 the fan kicked in and ran for a bit I got in the car and reved it a bit to see if it would heat up and it was cooling down then the fan went off less than 5 mintues after starting and I didnt know and the heat started right back up way past 220 and it didnt kick in so I shut it down.

Temp sending unit? Fan relay? Im guessing on these.

Have you jumped your car lately? I left my lights on when i first got my car, killed my battery. i got jumped in my buddies driveway and it never ran right after that moment. It would do like you say yours does... it overheats.. fan comes on.. but still keeps on overheating... etc etc.. Replace ECM!!
