Do you really need a kit? You car is sick as it is. If i were you( i know im not ) I would just bag it.

But on the other hand, if you do build it, include a ton of 'in progess' pics

you are correct....I think my car looks good ....as is....and I WILL be baggin it..in time....but from the very beggining of the project....its all been .............................................well........just a blank canvas...for me to glass....and show off my glasswork...so I decided...the outside should be just as wild as the inside...correct...

Well Ive been thinking about.........buying or building a bodykit for my Cavalier.....for quite some time now....and i finally decided to start building....(or try to anyway)

I want my kit to be 2"lower than the Stock Z24 kit.So i began by:building a little Platform which set me 2"lower

you can see the rear battery box, hanging below the trunk.Inside it are 2 G-31 Workahaulics....

center up the platform, and trace the boxes on the floor.
in case they were to get bumped...and move a bit....
(the boxes are secured to the platform)

My fat ass, rolling some thick cardboard...which i will use later ..

Ok the white beaded foam.....is only 3/4" thick,,,,,i used it because it was free.....(being thrown away at work)
So i glued it together in layers....with woodglue

Im going to bring the fenders out 1"
so you can see in the wheelwell......... where the rolled cardboard is used.....(first attempt at the wheelwells)....

however, after getting it all shaped up....(and actually getting a layer of glass on the right rear fender flare)....I didnt like the shape of the fender arch.....so I ripped it all off.And started over....

I ripped down some blocks to 1.5"X1.5"...................
taped off the tires,,,,,let air out of the tires....till the surface was semi-flat..........and glued these blocks to the taped up tires.....

you can see here......how much of a gap...i will be closing up...

If I understand this right, you're attempting to "stretch" the form of the original kit so that the gaps between wheel and car and between car and ground are reduced. I always thought the stock Z kit was beautiful, but it also occurred to me that it would probably look even better if it was just a little "taller", meaning the empty space in the front bumper would be slightly bigger (vertically) and the rear bumper going a bit more towards the ground.
Of course, you would also have to rethink the side skirts so that they would be correctly aligned with the bumpers, creating a nice, flowing line to the car that would, hypothetically, make it look more aggressive.
So I'm pretty glad you're looking into this, I'm interested by the results.
A few questions though:
If you're going to bag it, won't the new bumpers touch the wheel in a disastrous way? Or are you going to build something that arches over the wheel on the outside?
Are you going to modify the skirts?
Are you going to work on the kit or create a new one entirely?
In any case, post as much pics as possible.

Tim, I know you just say you make cabinets and stuff but in my knowledge I consider you a bodyman!!! You could take the courses and pass them with flying colors. Your a fiberglassaholic, and it takes alot of patience, knowledge, and skill to do what your doing. From one bodyman to another, (and I mean that) I truly enjoy watching someone elses work. And in the process seeing shortcuts, and learning a bunch of new stuff. So goodluck, and keep on post whoring!!!!!
