See the last section on this page (the heading is "3.1L (VIN M) Engine "). The upper engine mount part probably doesn't apply to you, I am not familiar with the cavalier v6 engine bay though. _________________

you removed the LIM already and its confusing? j/p
you need to unbolt the rockers. take out the pushrods and keep them in order somewhere, then the LIM gasket comes right out
clean all the surfaces on the bottom of the LIM, heads, block, ect.
put the new gasket in first. then reinstall pushrods, torque rockers to spec
then lay down black RTV on the ends of the block..where the old RTV was..
reinstall the LIM *make sure you use loctite and torque the LIM bolts in order and to spec!* _________________

Another thing I was wondering...
My LIM gaskets appear to be in good condition (they seem to be made of plastic? is that right)?
should I bother with a replacement? or just tighten it to spec after redoing the rtv seal.
I think the leak could've been as a result of loosened bolts (while I was undoing them, a couple of the diagonal bolts were especially loose) _________________

I would just go ahead and replace them while they are out. It never hurts to just replace them, plus on gaskets, if you try to reuse gaskets they will like 95-99% of the time not work and you end up just having to replace them anyways. I'd replace them and make sure all your bolts are tightened. Also, I believe the LIM gaskets have felt on them right? Someone remind me please! _________________

Always replace gaskets once they are removed, your just asking for that LIM to leak if you re use the old crap. _________________

Idk how far along you are, but you only have to remove 6 pushrods(3 front 3 back) to get the gaskets out. I beleive they are all the same length, so If you only take thje ones out that you need, you shouldnt have to worry about putting the wrong length rods in the wrong spot.
But I would check them just incase, it cant hurt.
Another thing, dont be afriad to put an assload of rtv in the valley. You deffinitly want that to seal good. |

Lordco want 90 bucks for a set, and that's after their "discount" _________________

ok so got the stuff at lordco
on the service bulletin it says i need some special bolts coated with a thread sealant
and since i'm not getting gm stuff, can i just apply some high temp thread sealant on instead?
It's not the loctite stuff, because i still might want them off later lol
it says it "prevents leakage due to viberation, temperature, clyclind and extreme pressures"
is that the right stuff?
thanks guys _________________

Spend the money and get the Fel-pro gasket set and use the blue loctite. _________________

Blue loctite would still let them come loose later, just don't use red _________________
