Ok, i have a 90 Z-24 3.1 lit. Driving home my low coolant light came on, shortly after that i smelled coolant and the temp gauge went up.
When i turned the engine off a mist came out of the vents. When the car cooled i checked the coolant level, Empty! I put more fluid in to check for the leak, it was leaking around the center bottom of the firewall. When i looked i could see an Elbow comming out of the firewall with the fluid comming out of it.

Should there be a house connected to this or is this a drain?
I've attaced a pic of the mystery elbow/hose? it was taken from the top of the motor.

thanks
Greg

There is no coolant drain that I know of on the firewall of any cavalier! There should be 2 hoses that go into your heater core, they are side by side. If there is only one on yours, then you lost a hose. It looks to me like you lost a hose.

WRONG, there is one.

Your heater core is fucked. Change it

X2

It's almost automatic, if you've got coolant mist inside the car, in the windows coming from the vents, the heater core just blew, or one of the hoses connected to the heater core inside the car!

Really where's it at? I don't remember seeing one on my 89 or my 93

There is a small hole below the 2 hoses for the heater core, that's the drain!

sweet, thanks guys , i just had my heater core blow too exact same symptoms on my 89 z24, i was not quite sure if i was just missing a hose on the engine side of the firewall cause it was draining out there also..
but i was 99% sure when the mist fogged up my windows, and my floor board was soaked..

thanks , i am more confident on how easy this will be to fix now..
perhaps ill take some pics on the repair... and post up.

It wasnt that bad except i messed up a bit broke the plastic pipes off of the core into the hoses.. that was a pain.. then getting at those damn clips to get the hoses back on the new one was rough.. i also missed a couple hidden screws in the core casing... so i will have to go junkyard diving... and get a new one... other than that all is well!! i need to replace the radiator to heater core line ( metal one on the passenger side) it is pretty rusted and has a very slight drip* so hopefully it holds long enough to get me through a couple weeks till my other car is out of the shop. then i can FINALLY just rip everything out of the engine bay to get the 3400 in there... but im happy .. i get to drive the z24 a bit more before she gets a makeover..

hope the dude that posted originally got his done too~ take this broken heater core Shooting
