did a quick search, and got nothing
im assuming the main person to ask would be Jake, so im sure he'll chime in...but im also looking for other peoples opinions
my headlights on the Z are a bit hazed...they're not horrible, so i wont even think about replacing them(until i do the BMW swap that is), but i do want to get them a bit clearer...i have tried toothpaste and it came out a little better than when i started...but i wanna see exactly how clear i can get these things(i know it wont become completely clear due to the BS on the inside of the lens, so no smartass comments on that)...but what have you guys found that works best on polishing headlights?...TIA _________________

Ive read alot about wet sanding them and then polishing them after. I tried it on the GTP on my old lights but they were all pitted from the inside from a water leak and it did nothing. But i would think it would help in your situation. _________________

If your familiar with a rotary buffer get some medium cut compound and go to town on the lenses, followed by a finishing polish. Takes less than 5 minutes per side, and unless their really pitted they should look very close to new.
Meguiar's also makes a product called PlastiX, thats a light polish made just for plastics. It can be applied by hand and should work better than the toothpaste you tried, but not even close to the polishing method.
Or finally if their REALLY pitted, you can wet sand them staring at like 800-1000 grit and work your way up to 2500-3000 grit and then polish them back out to a new finish. _________________

Yea the thing about headlight lenses is they are coated with a poly carbinite coating. Once it chips and the seal breaks they start turning yellow. Now the easy way around this would be what ^^^ these guys suggested. However the catch22 of it is once you sand away all that coating they will actually start to yellow up quicker now. Hitting them with clear coat is ok for a minute or two. But it will continue to happen so you'll have to spend more time on them.
If you want simple they actually make headlight restore kits. It's pretty much a wetsand and poly seal kit in one. Some work better than others. I haven't pissed around with to many yet. My way would be Dan's way. Wet sand the bitch and then hit it up with a buffer and polish until clear. But that's just because I like doing things like that as fast as I can get it done _________________

My friend and I tried a $20 or so dollar kit that comes in a thin, silver bag. We found this one at wally world but I'm sure car parts stores would sell it.
Anyhow, his headlights were terrible looking (2000 civic). They were all yellowed and hazed over. We gave the kit a try and we were both suprised with the results. They turned out brand new looking and they are still holding up over a year later. _________________
