so my ignition is being a pain in the ass, so i decided to do something a little different, i plan on putting in a toggle switch and a push switch, and keep the ignition in so i still have the steering lock, but i would like to know how easy this is,,, besides drilling the holes and running the wire.
my thought is that the wires that run the main power i can hook up to the toggle switch, and the actual starter to the push switch, but is there anything i should know, ,besides the basics? _________________

It would be a bit more difficult than just a simple toggle switch as you have Ignition 1, 2, crank, Acc, and maybe others at the column/switch.
For the single switch for IGN 1, 2 Acc (Also 2 and ACC shouldn't be powered while cranking) you could use a switch with relays outputting power to the separate outputs. That way each would stay separate of each other and not back feed.
It would be a bit of a pain to do correctly but could be done.
Also for ACC and Ign. 2 you could have the relay be inactive regardless of switch position while the start button is being pushed which would fix the output being on while cranking.
Also use a relay on the "start button" as it takes a lot of current to turn over a starter and doing a direct connection would more than likely burn out a switch (Not certain, but the relay would be the best option IMHO) _________________

Also to me it would be a PITA if you are leaving the steering lock because you would then have to input the key and turn it forward to disengage the lock feature, then flip a switch, then push the start key.
If it was me I would head to the junkyard and grab an ignition switch
Best of luck either way _________________

Thanks for the advice, im still on the fence about it, the only reason i wanted the steering lock was so that when i went somewhere where someone would be tempted to steal my car i could just take the key out and they wouldnt be able to go very far.
But also this sounds a bit harder then it did in my head, but obviously you know what you are talking about more than i do when it comes to this stuff, either way i go i will post what i did, especially if i went with the switch. _________________
