I don't know if this has been answered anywhere else but i've looked for hours and haven't found anything, Guys will talk about what they've towed as a joke but not really being serious. I've got a 94 cavy 2.2L 5 spd.

I want to tow my 05 rxt seadoo. Its about 1000 pounds with fuel and trailer. With a tongue weight of 100 pounds. I'm just planning to travel about 35 minutes away and i can take either the highway or a sideroad. The launch is decent but am i risking wrecking anything? if its just the clutch i could care less.

iirc it was 1500 lbs but you better hope your back bumper isn't rusted at all...

I've never towed with a cav, but I did tow a 4x8 flatbed with a Beretta. A few hundred pounds was no problem at all. I had about 1000 pounds on it once, and that was pushing it. Was a short pull, 3 miles tops, no more than 30 mph - but the car did not like that too much.

Then of course there's the infamous picture of the Cobalt coupe towing the 2 quads on the trailer.

I could see a Z towing but I dunno that a 2.2 Cav would like that too much to be honest...and yes, if your bumper is even the SLIGHTEST bit rusty, trailer and car would soon be parted.

think of it this way...

find 4 people that weigh roughly 1000 lbs together and get them all in your car. Then drive it around and see how it handles the weight.

the 100lbs of tounge weight shouldn't be an issue if your rear springs are in good shape, it's the added stress on the 2.2 that i'd worry about.

well i drove it down to the gas station and back, i've got a really steep driveway and to be honest i was quite surprised with how well it did. Car jack knives really well and it towed strong, i've yet to take it on the highway but i think i'll be alright. u guys keep mentioning the bumper being rusty but the hitch attaches to the frame rails as well as the bumper, i had to drill two holes in the bumper metal but the other two bolts went into holes already in the frame so i think we're picturing two different hitches, cuz ya my bumper metal is really rusty.

it might run strong now but if you keep it up it wont be running strong the 2.2 dosent have torque like the 3.1 has your putting unnecessary strain on the engine. Eventually its going to pop

Now before anyone comments, I only did this ONCE and it was a 5 minute drive down the road. The hitch has since been removed from the alero and I now own a truck.

on with the pics...

Station wagon or Moog Cargo springs would bring that right up.
