Im currently looking at a 96 Beretta with the 3100. my 1st question is will the 3400 head fit? (i assume yes is my answer)
but the reason i ask is, from searching it seems the the 00+3100 and 3400 are identical. But what is different from 96 3100 and a 00+ 3100 that may make a hybrid swap difficult. I think i am confusing myself more than i should have here is the link i had found this car http://omaha.craigslist.org/cto/874679108.html

the 3400 top end fits just fine on the old 3100. Use headgaskets for a 3100 and the rest for the 3400.

One thing you'll run into is that the old 3100 LIM is threadded where the rear coolant line goes in.. the 3400's aren't. You should be able to buy a tap and thread that part so that the 3100's coolant line will go right in.

Overall a pretty easy swap.

He could use a press in 3400 coolant line.

Yah, but they don't line up right with the heater core.. he'd have to run some extra hose...

Depends on what application you get it from.

x2, I got my press-in LIM line from a 3100 Beretta Z26...pretty sure it was a 95 but could be possible this 96 has press-in style as well. So it's possible that an older 3100 could have the press-in style line.

I've removed the lower line from several 94-96 3100's.. all were threadded.

well i guess im second in line cuz some other guy had looked at it before me and he may buy it first. the guy says it runs strong but doesnt know if the lim gaskets have ever been replaced sayed it has never ran hot and has ran cool all summer. he bought it for a DD and now has too many cars and wants it gone. So i may not get it if the other dude buys it since the guy wanted to be fair and give this other dude a chance to buy it by Tuesday.
