So I was researching for a while and last summer I decided to go forth with the 3500 swap and the 5spd swap. I bought an '06 Malibu 3.5 and a 1990 muncie tranny.
Problems would arise:
Bought tranny from G-U-NOT...Bad Idea
-not all the parts, no throwout bearing, many other headaches
Bought Engine from J/Y:
-Busted Valve cover, TB (didnt need), and underneath was the broken cylinder head. Happy times
I worked on it but ran out of time as it was time for me to set off back to college. I would work on it every chance I had at home. Finally, long story short, I rolled it out. Clutch Master went 10 miles in so an easy replace (not cheap though). Everything seems ok but I have a terrible idle which causes it to stall sometimes (when decelerating from higher speeds or even lower ones).
I will post pictures and such ASAP.
Question: I have a crap idle that causes it to stall sometime. Idle when first started will stay at around 1000 then slowly drop and start bouncing. It will bounce from 500 to 1000 and sometimes will stall. It only stalls when decelerating or coasting in neutral when the rpms get too low, the car doesnt always stop them from going lower it just drops. Rough idle at stand still no matter the gear, sometimes stalls standing still or when in traffic. The car also has a slight bucking feel to it when you are accelerating. It just feels like a hesitation in the acceleration or a slight bucking. (best I can describe it). Anyone have any idea? I don't see a vacuum leak and TB is sealed good. Thanks
Dave

IAC is fine, the injectors seem to all be working fine. How do you check for a leaking inj.?
It idles higher before it warms up so its not noticeable but it gets worse the warmer it gets and once it is up to operating temperature, the RPMs jump around
My car had two codes thrown out:
44 and 45 (rich and lean exhaust)

Damn beat me to it! I'll have to come out and see your handy work. Maybe Jay can help you tune it and such.
As for the codes, maybe a new o2 sensor? I just got those codes not too long ago myself.

to check injs you either pull the uim and ohm them out, or take a fuel pressure guage and put on the check valve, pressure up, and see if it leaks off lol. thats what id check. does it have the 3 wire cts? if so then i wouldnt assume its that or the guage would be screwed up.

wolfwood: haha yeah ill have to come out sometime and that would be cool, It could use some tweaks here and there. The O2 sensor better not be bad I just put in a brand new one lol
fastcavi: hmm thats a good idea, I will have to check that and yes I do have the 3 wire cts in it and it works normal.

Do you think the 3.1 TB is causing the issues with the 3500 and 3400 tune? I was thinking if I got the adapter and put on the oldsmobile intrigue TB it might work better. If the tune was set up for a bigger TB, a smaller one would screw it up.correct?

Well I figured it out. Today the head gasket went. I made the mistake of not replacing it when i put the new head on the engine. Oh well, I will fix that and put the Olds Intrigue TB on it too so things will be better. Damn Head Gasket

well new head gaskets are on their way, got the LX5 TB adapter (thanks to sanjay) the only thing that is standing in my way is the weather . It has been raining here almost everyday for the past week and will continue to be that way next week with one day. Hopefully it will be on the road again come Wednesday. Damn weather

So it is finally back together, This time around I changed some minor things:
Paint
Plugged up EGR for now since I couldnt get a pipe made for it yet (realized the car won't run good without it deleted from the computer)
2001 Intrigue TB and adapter
New Head Gasket (cylinders 1,3,5 only)
New LIM gasket
New Valve cover gaskets
Minor changes...
I start it up and coolant is still burning off out of my exhaust system. I thought maybe it was left over from when the head gasket went but now I don't know. It doesn't sound that bad just smoke everywhere. Would the LIM gasket not sealing properly cause this?
