Still not in the car, but getting closer.

I have the "new" heads and intake installed, so its mostly together and almost ready to go in. I still have to pull the old engine and get the flywheel turned before I drop it in.

And a quick pic...

Does anyone have a part number for the O-ring for the coolant pipe that goes into the thermostat housing? The one that came with my intake gaskets and the one I ordered are both way too big (I think they are felpro part number 70799.) Both of them look like are for the pipe that goes in the front cover and not the one in the Tstat housing.

Thanks

A new thermostat comes with the gasket...

I dont need the thermostat gasket, I need the O-ring that goes on the heater pipe that goes into the thermostat housing. And I cant find one. I'll probably have to take it to the parts store and find one that fits.

Another question: Do I order plugs and wires for the 2.8 or 3400? The reason I ask is I bought a new set for the 2.8 before I tore it apart. The parts store told me the 3400 had different plugs, but not sure if that applies in our swaps.

Thanks

You want the plug wires for the 3400 since the coil location and routing is different.

I would highly recommend you replace the LIM gaskets while you have the engine out, since they are almost guaranteed to start leaking at some point. You can get the whole gasket kit here http://wot-tech.com/shop/all/1996-2005-3400-and-2000-3100-intake-manifold-gasket-set/prod_118.html which includes everything you need. Just get a 10mm crow's foot or a swivel socket.

If you don't want that, you could get this which has most of the gaskets, including the coolant ones http://wot-tech.com/shop/all/completion-gasket-set/prod_258.html

It's also a good idea to replace the spark plugs with new AC Delco Iridium plugs. They are a bit pricey but they last for 100,000 miles.

Thanks for the quick reply. I replaced the intake gasket, thats how I found out the heads had stripped out holes. I probably wont go with the iridium plugs (just yet anyway) until after I get it running and can drive it for a bit.

Ok I have the engine in the car now and I just need to get everything connected back together.

I know there was a post on here about connecting the fuel lines but I cant seem to find it now. My question is does the fuel go in on the regulator side? Seems like it would but I thought I read that it went out on that side, so just wanting clarification.

Thanks

You can use the WIRES from the old 2.8 easily, in fact, I personally think they look better. They are much longer than the 3400 ones because of where the coils are but you can arrange them in such a way that they loop around:)

I already ordered a set of wires for the 3400, the 2.8 wires were shot.
