my first car.....83 trans am 25th anniversary daytona 500 pace car replica. it has been sitting for the last 9 years. was origionally a 305 crossfire injected. 2001 was converted to carb and i quickly learned that just cutting and taping off ALL of the fuel injection wires at the same spot was a bad idea. i wish i learned that before the fire. any way fixed all of that and then grenaded the origional trans put in a known goos trans from a friends car, grenaded that one (broken reaction shells in both within 30 min of initail test drive). started to get things ready to fix again in 06, but the project was side tracked by a very cheap sunbird vert. and since i think im about 100% finished with upgrades on the sunbird its time to get the T/A back on the road.

Looks like a good build. Can't go wrong with a 1 pc rear main seal block and the vortecs. What trans are you going to run?

Got any pics of the car? I love the pace cars it would look amazing if it looked stock with the decals, but actually had the power to back it up instead of the "ceasefire 305"

since you asked and it showed up today. sticking with the origional 700R-4. doing a TCI performance rebuild on it as we speak. can't start full assembly yet as i am waiting for "the beast". thats an aftermarket reaction shell that doesnt break like all the gm ones.

also heading to competition products this weekend to pick up my rorationg assemblyso once the trans is done i can move right to the engine build. nothing too fancy just your run of the mill stroker kit.

as for the car it is the origional two tone blk/wht is also a t-top car. the decals are gone but i just ordered a classic industries catalog since it the only place i know of that sells the whole decal set for it. but i prolly wont put the ugly ass nascar ones on the rear quarters. also on the hunt for some good condition GTA honeycomb rims blk w/ polished lip, as i think that'll finish it off nicely. NO rust anywhere. i had it sanded down to bare metal in late 2001 and didnt find any. had it painted but the painter didnt use any flex modifier in the paint so its chipping off all the platsic pieces, and needs a hood due to the engine fire. interior is mint as well. ill try n find some pics of her from back in the day but not gonna get any new ones till i get it out n start the install.

Pulled engine n trans tonight. Thought about pulling the rear diff cover cuz its pretty much posi....like a Lincoln or miller posi. But thought it was wierd that someone would go to all that trouble to weld the rearend on a crossfire POS that could barely spin the tires. Anyway then I found a tag on the diff for limited slip fluid only....anyone got any info on an old LSD like what would be in this?

My '82 T/A Crossfire 305 had that same tag, iirc it's just a standard sprung plate style LSD. Mine had the 3.23 gears which were the best you could get in '82..

Looks like a solid build, the Crossfire setup can actually support some great power but you need to bolt on some good heads under it and figure out a way to tune that crusty old ECM. You'll probably have much better luck with a carb though.

I ran Comp's XR270HR retro-fit cam kit in a 355 with '882 iron heads, a torker 1 intake with a 750 carb and longtubes, it put down 230 WHP/320 TQ through a TH400 trans. It was a fun car to drive for sure although i can't imagine trying to keep the tank full with todays prices.

I see a good combo so far. One thing I would suggest though is a Vortec-specific intake, rather than bolting an old style on the Vortecs. The bolt pattern is different, but so are the runners. The Vortec runners are taller and you will lose power by running a standard intake.

My Camaro has a Vortec 355 that I built in '06 that makes great power, mainly thanks to the guys on NastyZ28 that guided me in the right direction, and a Vortec-specific intake was one of their strong recommendations. Another recommendation I have is a tight quench (~.040) because it makes a big difference with those heads.

Good to see you're finally working on the TA. It looked like it was sad sittin in the garage collecting dust. With the way your Sunbird looks the TA should be pretty sweet once finished. Keep up the good work.

On a side note.. Are the manifolds for the 3x00 available yet?

Just ordered a new intake...the ports barely line up.

As for the manifold not yet still waiting on the headers. The guys said there is a long waiting list, since race season is about to start. Lots of last minute coatings, for a large fee they would rush it but don't have the cash

pretty much, i had 275.60.15's on the back and it squealed around slow turns all the time.

It might be a good idea to pop the cover and check it out though...

not much of an update, still waiting on the hood to get painted and need to get it registered so i can take it to get the exhaust done. got new wheels and tires on, reproduction GTA rims wrapped in altimax rt 245 50R16. figued since i needed to take pics for my hobbyist plates id post some up. still needs to be dropped an inch or two. and still on the lookout for a new washer tank. thoughts on the new wheels??

also any one looking for some meaty tires, im looking to sell a pair of firestone firehawk 5520's in a 275 60r15, have three track passes, a few doughnuts, and about 1000 miles on em, id say atlest 11/32" of tread left of the origional 12/32". $75 for the pair without the rims, wont ship, can meet or deliver if its within reasonable distance or on the way to the bash (quad cities, iowa). pics below.

Been working on my mullet project the past few days as well. have the powerjection III unit on and running pretty (hard to tune with no exhaust). working on exhaust yesterday and today, here's where im at. gonna eliminate one of the bends on the left and just turn it right, then extend and lower the right pipe. using two magnaflow x3 chambered mufflers (dimensions 20x4x10 offset in/out) stacked on top of one another, tucked up close to fuel tank with a two layer heat shield on top

Mufflers in place just gotta do tailpipes n hangers. In this pic the rear of the car is not on the hoist arms, the blue stands are under the axle compressing the suspension. I still have about three inches ground clearance between the bottom muffler and where the sway bar goes under the rear axle.
