I have an 89 transmission in my 92. No intermediate shaft, just a longer passenger axle. But both transmission sides are male. The 92 axles have female transmission ends. (not sure about one with the intermediate shaft for the 92)

For the 92 it lists one for pass and driver side. It is new, not reman. Male ends. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/MSV0/GM8071.oap?year=1992&make=Chevrolet&model=Cavalier&vi=1038103&ck=Search_cv+axle_01424_1038103_1522&keyword=cv+axle&pt=01424&ppt=C0362

yes the short axle I need is one that isn't reman I'm assuming and it has a female inboard to connect to the intermediate shaft, but now we have proven that the full length axle with both male ends does exist, how is your full lenght axle holding up bondo, any issues?

It holds up just great. I'm pretty heavy on the throttle quite often too, and have had ZERO issues with it. Except when I first replaced it, I didn't get the C-clip in the tranny all the way. And I thought the same thing, that is was too short. It wasn't. A few stress relieving sessions with a dead-blow hammer and it was locked in. Make sure you use a dead blow (plastic or rubber hammer filled with sand). A big metal one will damage the threads on the axle end, and a regular rubber mallet isn't heavy enough.

hahaha very good bondo, im thinking the garage is just rushing through this step and thinking if they cant pull it out then its good.

i got 5 mins on it last time and it said bye bye, I was lucky to be at a green light intersection with a gas station on the otherside, although it was hard to park in gear with the axle unattached lol

Well, I've never even heard of it before. All the 92+ cars have intermediate shafts, and the Hollander Interchange (based on factory specs) only lists a 2 piece (intermediate and outer) axle. So, there may very well be long, single axles, but they probably aren't directly from the factory. I will have to look into that.

As far as not finding factory axles, use car-part.com. There are hundreds on there. Intermediate shafts as well. You're still much better off with a used factory axle than a parts store axle (even if it says new).

Even found a couple on rockauto.com.
http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carcode,1037922,parttype,2288

Look at the ones that say Standard transmission W/o intermediate shaft front right.

so it turns out I never knew about car-part.com so now im all excited lol

does anybody know how good this site really is? i found a yard that has jack shafts and the works here in canada but im not sure about it because wrecking yards usually screw shit up

i wish duty never existed i mean i'm 40 mins from the border in maine but have to pay duty to get it here and these parts would come from saskatchewan which would be harder to deal with if somethin gets messed up.

The site itself doesn't sell anything. They only put you in touch with whatever junkyard you choose to call. I've gotten a few sets of axles and countless parts for some of my other projects. I've never had an issue by calling the yard first to confirm whatever it was that I needed and just having them ship it to me.

I would just order remanufactured axles and measure the thickness of the axles with a micrometer when you pick them up and make sure they have the correct axle in them and are not the skinny automatic ones, even though it wont make a difference unless you plan on breaking them. Also, all V6 jbodys came with intermediate shafts, you can replace them with the long axles, I know people that have done it but I wouldnt. I do belive there are 2 different intermeidate shafts. I belive one is steel and one is aluminum or some other light metal. I pulled them at the junkyard, one weights like 30lbs and one weights about 5lbs I dont know if they are the same strength so I kept my steel one.

His problem had nothing to do with the diameter. It was the overall length and the style of the CV. Both problems are eliminated by using factory axles.

There was never an aluminum axle made. J bodies only ever came with a steel intermediate with an external bearing. There were two different bearing support brackets available. One steel, the other aluminum. There is another style intermediate shaft available on certain L bodies that is a steel shaft inside an aluminum tube with an internal bearing.

All of this information is available in a simple search.
