1990 Cavalier Z24
|
|
Hello there
I want to swap the steering wheel in my 1990 z24. But idk if any ol' after market steering wheel will fit or how to find out. And I cant find a black Z24 steering wheel anywhere around where I live...
So my question is, how do I go about finding one that fits, and is changing it as simple and undoing the like 6 screws and pulling it off?
Thanks

I could be wrong on this one, but I think most of the Grant steering wheels fit. I like the GT model one the best, but I like the stock Cavy wheel more.

Alright ill have to look into that.
I like the stock on too but the guy I bought it from painted it black (he wanted a black interior i guess) and since steering wheels are spongey, i squeezed it and the paint crumbled off -.-
Thanks for the info

I'm sorry to hear that, I hate it when people do dumb things like that.
My climate controls have a couple of glue drip runs on the face of it because the center console trim didn't fit right so they thought they could glue it and they made a mess with it. All they had to do was understand the metal clips.
I hate morons. Why would someone paint their friggin' steering wheel??? Dipshits.

Momo from 1989, even work.
-If your determined for an original black steering wheel,
Theres 1 @ Miss Auto Wreckers, steering console is already removed, just laying in there, Ignition lock is broke, and i have to many parts,
only reason its in there.

Grants will fit with the GM install kit. I've had the same grant on both my Z24 and the Camaro now.

Ok good to know I didn't sound completely stupid with saying that then, because I wasn't sure if I was right about it or not. Thanks Dave.

Many aftermarket steering wheel companies will sell a corresponding installation or hub kit for a certain application. Grants have a huge variety for domestic cars, you would need part #3196 to fit a Grant GT wheel on our cars.
This talk makes me miss the warmer temperatures, my GT is hanging on my wall to keep it from cracking in the freezing weather Can't wait to put it back on.
I agree with Denny though, the Z24 wheel looks the greatest. If I could have found a good condition one locally, I would have used that rather than the aftermarket one.

Put a colbalt steering wheel in. I had one in my car but took it off when I redid my interiror so it wouldnt get ruined. You can even wire it it to your radio. I did. Just search jbody.org for wiring info if you are interested.

+1. This would be an amazing swap to do. I would love climbing into my car everyday to drive with a Cobalt wheel.

...yah but that's into a third gen 2004. I'm not saying I would do the swap, because I really do like the phase 2 stock steering wheels too. I'm just saying it would an awesome swap. Do you have a whole how-to for instruction dropping the gas tank however? I wanna do mine this weekend because it needs to come down. A new tank came with the car when I bought it, so I've got parts and am good to go. Got a new fuel pump too! The tank wants to leak if it gets filled over the halfway mark, so I'm gonna change it out before any more damage is done to my wallet.

Tank is easy to do. There is just two bolts that hold the metal straps on. Undo them and the swing down and the tank falls. That is it. Just unplug the fuel pump cables once you drop it down half way and also undo the fuel lines at the same time so you don't break anything. Pretty easy. One of the easiest things you can do to these cars. Pretty much every car is the same way.
