hey
I have a different chip but maybe you can help me anyway.
I have a Hypertech stage 2 chip, with the thermo, replacement. Put it in fine, car works great. My cars an auto and when i drive at idle speed, ie Cruising at 50. the car upshifts then downshifts, up shifts then downshifts, it continues to do this unless i drive faster. hey I wonder if I could use this as an excuse if I got pulled over for speeding? Any idea what's causing this? Never had the problem before, and it doesn't feel like any kind of slippage.

My 92 Does the same thing, and it too is stock, but not for long. I found a bounty of information on how to and where to get. I have already ordered some stuff. I'm not going too radical, just a chip, cold air, and the throttle body bypass. That should be good for a start.

Thanks for the great site and excellent information guys!

Jim.

my mom has a 97 grand am gt 3.1 and it does it too. id say at around 80ish it ups and downshifts constantly, i think its between the "line" where the transmission is bein told to go up or down. what im gettin at is the rpms ur probably doing at about 50 or whatever is ridin the shiftpoint rpm on ur tranny, say for example ur tranny at that particular gear shifts at 3500 rpms. the rpms it takes to go about 50 or whatever is really close to 3500. now because we obviously cant completely control our exact speed, maybe what we're experiencing is 50.5 mph @3503rpms,, and then maybe like 49.9mph @ 3499 rpms. i hope i didnt confuse the hell out of you, but i think that is what is going on.

is that 50km/h sounds like its the torque converter locking and unlocking, i can make mine lock around 50km/h but if i move the gas pedal a little too much it unlocks, that sounds to me exactly what your problem is, im sure you could get your chip reflashed to lock the TCC at a little higher speed and avoid this problem

the VSS values are different, as well as a TON of other things in the code. the '90 used an old version of the code, 91-94 use the newer better $A1.

so basically, it might run, but it won't run right, and your speedo probably won't work along with a few other things...
