That depends how you're getting all the parts. I know that a friend of mine is doing one and he got a donor car. So it's going to cost him $500 CAD. I didn't have a donor car and I had to scrounge around for parts. it cost me $600 CAD.

Mind if I put this on my site? You will get full credit, and a link to the original will be provided.

Of course this is all do it yourself... Why on earth would we sit here and write up a step by step how to with pics included for a shop to do it for you????? Kind of defeating the purpose of this whole forum...

Awesome, I think that will be one of my early projects for my car. Junkyard no doubt has a junker I could scrounge parts from and my friend owns a garage...

I finally found a 5spd car(so glad my dad works for the town and drives all the roads).. It is a 91-94(not sure) RS 3.1 5spd. it has black interior, and the back end is smashhed, engine is shot, four flat tires. I stopped and talk to the guy and he said he called to have someone pick it up a week and 1/2 ago and they have not come yet, so he is calling them tomorrow and seeing if they still want it and if not it mine for free. I just need to get rid of the other car in my driveway of I have to register one. I am hoping the swap take me a Friday night and a Saturday, since I would be swapping out the dash and center console being that they are black.

Even if the other guy is still picking it up I am going to see if I can work a deal with him since he is just gonna crush it.All I need is all the manuial parts and the interior pieces. Hopefully I will know by tomorrow..

I guess there is no other way to swap the trans, but to drop it out the bottom=? I have no garage for a few months yet,and no access to a garage. The whole swap will be done on a hard packed gravel driveway. Is there any way to do the swao by pulling the engine/trans and bolting up the new trans and dropping it back in? This would probably add about 2 hours to the job,I have a very fast engine hoist(New Holland Skidsteer)..

Do I need anything else to do the swap or shoulf I have everything need in the car?

Jeff

Wow, of course it can be done that way but unless you have pulled an engine before, or maybe a few times you are really increasing your chances of stuff going wrong. Now of course I'm not telling you not to do it that way just be careful as with any engine pull.

I have never pulled an engine before, but my dad has pulled plenty of engine in all his years of working on cars. Plus it is not that hard just label all the wires,bolts,etc... The only reason it would be easier is it is hard to roll a jack on gravel, and laying under the car,etc..

If I get the car this week the swap will be done this weekend or next. I should be staright forward, Unbolt engine mounts, exhaust, unplug wires,un bolt drive line componets,etc.. Pull engine, unbolt trans, bolt 5spd on, drop engine back in and reverse the engine pull on putting it all back together.

i was going to wait to get the 5spd when I get a 3400 to swap in,but I fund the car and got to j8ump on it and dont want the car or trans laying around till winter, my motor only has 130,xxx on it so I am just going to swap the 5spd and see if I can find a 3400 for a reasonable price.
