the more and more KYB struts I've installed, I hate to say it, but I'm not all that impressed. they seem to have slow retraction and arent noticeably different from stock or monroe struts

however it seems that KYB shocks are rather nice, they retract much faster and seem to be worth the money

so is it just me, or does KONI seem like the way to go when it comes to struts? if KYB struts were like their shocks I would feel alot better about them

thoughts?

I'm confused. Did you mean to say KONI in that second part? lol

What do you mean by "retraction"?

There is compression and rebound. Compression is when weight is applied, and they compress. Rebound is when they extend. If whatever shock or strut you have in your hand compresses by itself, its bad. At rest, with no weight applied, they should be fully extended.

Also- there is no way to compare a Macpherson strut to a regular shock. It's like apples and oranges. They both do different things with different weights and rates.

And, I don't know why you didn't put this in Suspension.....

So, are you saying you don't like them because they don't extend fast enough? Or because they don't compress fast enough? Or because they don't work as well overall?

i think your main problem boils down to the fact that KYB stuff is meant as stock replacement parts. they're not meant as performance struts or shocks(except the Gas-a-just shocks, those are an upgrade). You can't expect them to be any better than monroes ro anything like that.

Exactly, they are a stock replacement. I just put gas-a-just on my car from Monroe sensatrac, and its a big difference. (shocks)

Right on.
I believe the gas pressures(maybe even the type of gas?) themselves are set differently in both the KYB and Monroe brand shocks. Go with what is cheapest and just paint them. No one will know and there is certainly no real performance advantage at all!!
I would agree both manufactures got a good rep, but I'd use monroes anytime.
http://www.monroe.com/products/Sensa-Trac/Passenger-Car-Shock-Absorbers

Don't our cars use the monotube design??
There are a few options though. Just pick one!
LOL
