Does 3-4 grand sound fair for a 3400 engine swap? I called a few places today just for curiosity. I called R&T Auto Repair in Kzoo, Michigan... and omg... lol ... what a joke. I was told a 3400 engine will not go into a Cavalier. I got into it with the dude and he hung up on me...lol. But the cheapest place I called was between 3 and 4 grand. What do you think? I think Im just gonna build up my 3.1.

Do you not have the time or the experience to do it yourself? Shops will charge an arm and a leg to do a swap like this. If you do it yourself, 2 grand is more than enough for a great swap.

it can be done in a weekend, about 1,000$, and a case of beer.

3-4$ will net you a 2000 model year car with probly less than a 100k miles. you do the math on that.

If you buy a few cases of Budweiser Tilt or Sparks you can get it done in a day or less...

I'd never pay a shop to do the swap, it's way too easy if you have the tools...

Im not very experianced at it, but I can get a few mechanics that will help me, but I have the lack of tools and a place to do it. I dont have a garage, but if Im moving here soon, which I found out yesterday I might be, Ill have the place to do it. If that is the case, Ill probably get a few of you guys from here in Michigan to help me, and some friends... I just figured I would throw this on here to see if 3-4 grand for the engine and the install was a decent price. I dont think Im going to do the swap. Come Spring I think Im gonna mod the 3.1, I dunno

save the money you're gonna pour into a 3.1, and you can buy 2 3400's for that price. Seriously

Think of it this way. The MOTOR IS THE SAME... don't be intimidated by the word "motor swap" it's basically as easy as swapping what's already in there for the same thing. Anyone will vouch that for me. Just because the upper and lower intake manifolds are different design, doesn't mean shit.

Basically, 3400, 3400 power steering pump A mounting bracket made by someone.... special pressure line based on application, throttle cable, pulling the plenum to swap wire harnesses for the injectors plus the injectors (for beginners), having a custom exhaust downpipe made. And Soldier in the 3 wire CTS or drill a hole in the rear head. Your choice. Thats it... Seriously. I have a guy's car i'm picking up this weekend from West Virginia for some extra cash, but no way would i drive to michigan not even worth the money for me . And he's not paying me 3 or 4 grand either. Sorry, Cough Cough, he's not paying US 3 or 4 grand either...

I guess Ill wait and see what money I have and who will help and what I can get for my money. Cuz when Im talking engine, I say go big or dont go at all. So I will have to go top of the line on everything for the 3400 plus a little nicer tranny probably.

first off, are u referring to R&T on osterhout in portage? they are the BIGGEST rip off. i have a buddy here in paw paw *rudys garage* call them and ask for Nick. talk to him, tell him your a buddy of Danny's =me.. give him 200 bucks and a case of beer and you can use the shop, the tools, and he will help you the whole way through. the kid is a turbo genious also. or i can see if the boss would let us use the shop on a weekend when were closed *west point auto sales* mattawan.. i have all my tools there so it would be super easy.

my whole 3400 swap including, buying the engine, ps pump, egr adapter and enigine mount bracket from jbp cost me less than a 1,000 dollars. the hardest thing for me was getting the heater tubes made and fitting right without and leaks or problems. otherwise a pretty straight forward job i thought
