I have done a few visual mods... some good electronic ones cause thats what im good at. but when it comes to engines its just not as pretty lol.

I have an '88 sunbird gt convertable and want to put a few things in the engine. I think this friday ill be getting a new air intake and stuff but i want more. I can do the installations or have friends do them cause i get that much i just dont know what to upgrade just to make everything better (doesn't even have to make it faster)

It's a 2.0, 4 banger, not much potential in them really. If I were you, leave the engine as is after your new air intake, unless it really needs anything. Put suspension upgrades in, from a V6 Z24, strut tower brace, etc. Then, when you're comfortable enough, toss that cracker jack engine and drop a V6 under the hood, but don't rush it, get comfortable with working on your car and go from there.

Suspension info:
http://www.v6z24.com/jbodyforum/viewtopic.php?t=78514

Run a search, you'll come across a crapload of info throughout the site, probably information about your 2.0 as well, I'd give info, but I'm actually not familiar with those engines myself. Ask questions as well, we're all here to help if need be. Good luck with your car, man, don't "rice" it.

im gunna be the first to say this
lol

your best bet for power is to rip it out and drop a 3400 into it

but for bolt ons, there really isnt much for your car, now is it a 2.0L turbo?, or just 2.0L?

if you can do the swap, check out www.domesticcrew.com/660 , thats your best bet for the most info

I was going to say that, but it's too repetitive around here, everyone with a 3400 is just spoiled. j/k dude.

My 3.1 could do that .

Oh well, think about it, I have a Z and a Shitbird, both of which have no engine or trans. in them as we speak... whatever shall take the place of those 3.1's?

Anyways though "zlittell" either way, we're all basically going to say go V6, whether it be 2.8, 3.1, or 3x00. The 2.0 engine just isn't a very good base to start with. To each their own though, good luck regardless, no matter which powerplant you choose, you came to the right place.

well he also has the option to swap a dohc head onto it, and have a nice lil hybrid. and if he goes with a daewoo head, he gets "D-tec"!
haha

Sucks how you guys are soo pro 3400 and anti-everything else Sad

The motor he has is excellent

88GT's were turbo - LT3

For those pro3400 people that don't remember - the fastest production jbody - ever.

There are many things he can do to give it more "juice"

As long as you take care of them and religiously change the oil, it'll be good for a long time.

zlittell - If you want more power,.. you "NEED" to find some forged rods! - However, I am doing a bit of research on the 2.0 ecotec s/c'd rods and pistons.

the rods were forged, but the pistons are cast - go figure

So far the BE of the rods appear to be the same - 2.047, however the length of the rods are 0.300 longer, so a new forged shallow piston will be required.

you are better off getting a jbod with a 3.1 that's blown in it,.. with your car,.. you'll have to swap in the harness, ecm and splice into the underdash harness
