Future
- The future is now! Original engine has been replaced by a balanced and blueprinted 3.1 bored over .060" (1.5 mm) to 3.24//198 cu in. (Silvolite skirt coated hypereutectic pistons, Hastings piston rings, ARP rod bolts, reconditioned stock crank and rods, Melling H-Vol oil pump) with Crane 272 cam (shortblock built by Bailey Motor Sports of Sun Prairie, WI). Ben from 60degreeV6.com ported my intakes and heads (rebuilt with new LS6 valve springs, 3500 valves, Comp Cams 1.52:1 roller rocker arms, porting for increased velocity) and provided advice for custom chip tuning, which we are still tweaking. I have built a set of custom headers with assistance from a friend who is a welder, but they still need slightly tweaked to fit perfectly (copies should be available after we make sure mine work, and can confirm how much power they add). The new engine was assembled and installed in April, and I have finally put some runs on it now (25 of them so far). Best ET so far was 14.869 @ 82.97 (on the brakes during a bracket race, so mph was off by 7 mph). Hope for close to 200 HP at the crank once we dyno, and 1/4s in the mid-14s before the headers, and very low 14s with them!
Misc
- 2 1/2" custom exhaust with hi-flow muffler
Comments
This car is 1 of only 14 '93 Sunbird SEs built in Code 52 Yellow with a 3.1/5-speed combo (confirmed with Pontiac). It also has tan interior, and only 10% of the Sunbirds came with tan.
10% of 14 makes it VERY UNIQUE!
It was my first car and I plan to keep it forever!
