some guy has been telling me that doing the exaust and the intake on my car would be a bad idea...he says that cavaliers depend on there backpressure for power and if i free it up with by doing the exaust i will lose major power and i would lose a lot of tourqe off the line...he told me the best thing to do is the tb heater bp...and just a k&n filter(not the custom intake) can someone please resond on that for me because i have been really thinking about doing a 2.5" exaust with a high flow cat...please help, i am stuck, thanks

Freeing up your exhaust won't lose you power. It may change where that power is located, however. It generally will move your peak HP and Torque a tad higher up in the power band. The 3.1L does need some backpressure, so I wouldnt recommend going with anything over 2.5" pipe, but otherwise, you are going to get some nice gains by doing the exhause and intake. You will still have that nice low end torque, but it will pull harder to redline.

Yes, I agree. The v6 has plenty of torque down low where most dont. So to lose just a little of it for the top end is what youll get. When drag racing or street racing, you need top end for the finish.
