hey guys i was looking on the site for the third brake light idea....and i wanted to do that but i found an easier way to do that.....but the difference is that you can see mine in the day but not that well cause i have a black car but at night it looks sick....what i did was i went and bought 4 pieces of 10" inch by 2"inch 3M sticky vinal whatever coulor your car is unless you want different(you only need one but i thought i would mess it up and i did)...use the stuff they use for truck lettering..( be sure to use 3m or anything made for cars cause it is weather proof anything else will come off)
then i used your template off the site and traced it on the peice of vinal with a knife then i carfully after 2 times of meesing it up peeled away they excess material and there it was a Z24 cutout....the i just centerd it on my light with they edges sticking over and then i just cut around it and i tucked it in at some places and thats it done ...the only difference between mine and moons is you cant see mine well in the day..unless i hit the brake...then you see the z24...but again it could just be cause its a black car im not sure ...but i wanted to let you guys know that if anyone wanted to try it...i like it....ill try to get a pic what it looks like on my pictures as soon as i can

Thanks for the idea man. I bought mine from Vincent Keene on the org. They look good and are made from 3-m stuff. If you can make them yourself, the better. Lets see a pic of your design man. Id like to see what it looks like.

I used the template on the site, but after staring at it for a while, I decided that white just didn't go with red and black. At the time, I was painting my vents, so I figured I might as well while I had the paint out - I painted mine black. Sure, you can only see it when I hit my brakes, but it looks a lot cleaner.

Side note: is it safe to rewire the third brakelight to my taillights so it'll glow dimly when I have my lights on, but not my brakes? Or is that too much constant current?

I don't think that would work right. The brake light bulbs in the corners are dual filament bulbs, that is how they get brighter when you push the brakes, the other filament lights up. If you wired up the 3rd brake light, it would alway glow bright whether the brakes were pushed or not. That could cause problems.

Antipode, you can add some 25 watt resistors to the power lead to the third brake light to dim it. Youd have to experiment with the values of the resistors, but I would guess around 50 ohms or so. It wouldnt work when you pressed the brake light, but would remain lit at all times.
You could take a wire from the brake lite an wire it just after the bulb for the brake effect and use a diode to stop voltage feedback. This way you would have a full bright brake light and a dim light when not braking.
If Ive lost anyone then you can e-mail me and I will explain further.
E-mail me if you have any questions. It seems like a valid idea. [email protected]

Ugh, sounds like fun, I haven't taught myself electrical stuff yet. Being the lazy person I am, would I be able to find dual-filament bulbs in that size, or at least be able to fit one dual-fil bulb behind the cover?
