Ummm, I hope I'm not the only one with this problem, but my third brake light is definately too wide for the templates, and I think I'm going to have to go about this a completely different way.. I'll see what happens.
how wide is the backing template when you print it out? It should be about 8 3/8" along the bottom. It may not be printing out the correct size...
If thats the case, I may have to change the image resolution....
crap......Thats the problem. I just tried printing the template in Internet Explorer. It shrinks down the size.
What you need to do is, save the template images to your hard drive, and open them in an image editing program, such as Photoshop, and print them from there. They will then be the correct size. I will add this notice to the how-to. I also added a ruler to the backing template image, so you can compare its size to make sure it is right.
Wow, this thing's tougher to cut than I thought it would be. I'll be doing my second try tomorrow, only I'll have working templates this time =]
So much for that... I tried printing them through various programs on my dad's computer (since HP decided to upgrade their software so my computer can't see the damned printer), and none worked. I'm just on a roll.
I finally got it, after far too many tries. I got impatient and used thinner polystyrene, I'll make a thicker one later. Even so, it looks good =]
Erm, side note... use the thicker styrene, I had a friend step on my brakes so I could see it myself, and the light shone clear through it. I believe I'll just paint it black to match its surroundings, and the screws won't be quite so obvious this way.
