Does anyone know or have a 3T40 tranny that shifts really soft? Ive heard that this is the way they shift from the factory. I even found a shift kit thats supposed to correct that. However I have nothing to compare to. I bought this cavalier with 150k mi and never had a trans service. just curious, any input welcome..

Don't service it now. You may wash out all the material that it's using as friction  Yes they shift kinda soft from the factory, because the PEOPLE complain that they shift too firm. So the factory makes them slip to allow for a softer ride.... What a joke.

Anyway there is/are shift kits available, you just have to find it. But either way, i'd just drive it till it blows up, then get yourself a hand on a good trans.
yeah, mine is really soft too. under light throttle sometimes i can't tell if it has shifted or in the middle still. hate it! i'm looking into a 4T65E swap this week! that'll cure that!

if it were me, i'd do the service. if you should happen to flush contaminants out, the filter is there to catch it.
Try adjusting your TV Cable. My trans shifts quick & crisp without any shift kit.

how would you go about doing this? I'm intrested. I have a shift kit and it sucks ass, I can barly tell a difference.
On both my J's I have not found the shift to be "soft"
It seems quite resonsive actually.

Now its in the shop being rebuilt... and apparently they are installing that shift kit. Supposed to make the Trans. last longer and I'm told that shifts should be a little sharper.

I hope its better than before... definitly hope the work dosn't make the car slower. I'll know next track day if its about the same.

There is an adjuster on the cable that goes to the throttlebody. push the button in with a big screwdriver and pull the cable in or out... depending on which way you need it to go.
sweet thanks
