One of my friends has a Beretta GT, 2.8L 5 spd.
I dont know how fast these cars are, but are they as fast or faster than a z24 with a 3.1L ???
Anyone know the difference in 1/4 mile time between a 2.8 and 3.1???
Anyhow, was just wondering, cause the 3.1L has more power, but then again, z24's with the 3.1L seem to be a bith bigger than older ones with the 2.8L

Well, a 1990 Beretta GT with the 2.8 is making 135 HP and weighs in at about 2600 lbs

a 1992 Z24 weighs in at about 2690lbs and is making 140 HP.

So it would be close. The Beretta is slightly lighter, but slightly less HP. So the race would pretty much come down to driver skill, and the tranny, with a manual having the advantage of course.

I dont get it tho. Ive raced a one with a 3100 and beat him bad and my 1/4 mile times are about the same as the quad 4 powerd ones so how could my car have less power and be just as fast. I even smoked my clutch on my best run and i have a bad motor mount.

The 2.8 was 125 - 135 HP. In 1990, the 2.8 was replaced with the 3.1 in the cavalier, but the Beretta still got the 2.8, with its HP bumped up to 135. The most the 2.8 ever made in the Cavalier was 130. The 3.1 has always made 140 HP, although the RMP at which it made that power got slightly lower each year, and the torque varied from 180 - 185.

if you beet a Beretta with a 3100, one of two things happened.
1. you have your car better moded than he did.
2. the driver sucks

Alright, I need to make some corrections to my first reply on this topic, in which the errors carried over to my second post. I guess thatis what I get for posting at 2AM.

Anyway, my reference to the 1990 Beretta was wrong. It had the 3.1 (not the 2.8 ), which is how it made the 135 HP. In 1991, the 3.1's HP was bumped up to 140. All cars with the 2.8 switched to the 3.1 in 90.

Sorry for the confusion. And thanks to BadZ24 for point out my mistake. I guess numbers start to blur the later it gets...
