Which one would be faster with same engine, options, and year model. Someone told me that the .2.8L V6 Beretta Gt (88) 5 spd. is faster than a 92 Z24 3.1L 5spd. Is this true? or is it because these two cars just have different gear ratios???

-John
PS: Anyone ever heard of a Quad4 H.O in a z24?? cause with 180hp and a time of 0-60 of 7.5 secin Beretta GTZ it would be quite fast

Yes we did, but I still dont know if the Beretta is generally a better/faster car than the Z24 with same options, cause in the <LINK_TEXT text="http://www.v6z24.com/messageboard/viewt ... &forum=2&6">http://www.v6z24.com/messageboard/viewtopic.php?topic=451&forum=2&6</LINK_TEXT> post, a guy said that if you beat a Beretta GT 3.1L with a Z24 with same engine, you either had your car modded better than he did or that the driver sucked, so this makes me wonder if the Beretta is a faster car

he was refering to a 94+ Beretta with the 3100 engine, not an older Beretta with the 2.8. Yes a Beretta with the 3100 (1994 - 96) is faster, because the 3100 makes 160 - 175 HP (not sure exactly what it was making for those 3 years)

I had a 1990 Beretta GT 3.1 (Auto)
and raced a 89 Z-24 Cavalier 3.1 (Auto)
neither car modded. i had him by 1/2 a car length 90+mph at barberton speedway. We were both running with all pedal. After we got home he said he had no acceleration left and neither did I. both cars would slowly pick up speed at 90+.

Another quick question. Raced a celebrity 2.8L Auto yesterday. I gave him about a 1 sec. headstart and then i started, but about 2 seconds later he was in my rearview mirror. Is there really that big a difference between a 2.8L 0-60 time and a 3.1L's??
On this webpage http://members.aol.com/jbafia/jackscar.htm
It says a 86 Z24 has a 0-60 time of 8.5 sec. is there really an official 0-60 time of a 3.1L Z24???

My other car is an '89 Celebrity 2.8 auto

I raced a ?'90? caviz24 with the 3.1 and he took me off the line...I never could have caught up. I have a bad vaccuum leak, my tranny slips.

My opinion is that the 2.8L z24 is faster than the 3.1
The 3.1 only puts out 10 more HP and 20 Ft-lbs torque, yet weighs 200 more pounds (I think). Acceleration will be better in the 2.8, and top end will be VERY close.

I'm not sure about the differences in setup between the cavalier and celebrity engine compartment...but it's got to be there somewhere.

Im not sure that the 3.1 is really 200 pounds heavier, because A Bretta GT has the 2.8 and weighs in at 2600 pouns. My 92 Z24 has a 3.1 and it weights in at 2690pounds.
The 3.1L just has a longer stroke, that is why it gets more hp and torque.I would think that when chevy decided to increase the engines size to 3.1L that they would make sure that it would also be faster and better on fuel, since there are always increases in technology, which I hope CHevy incorporated when making the 3.1L

PS: The Celebrity I raced was in horrible shape, thats why I gave him 1 sec headstart to at least give him a fighting chance
