Coloured guage lighting

I have a 89 Z and I want to change the bulbs to a different colour.The instructions in the how to section are for phase 2.Do these instructions apply for my car or is that for a later model.I've heard other people have had hard times removing the cluster.Is it really that hard or are they just not doing it right.
