Deck/Sub compatibility?

Ok...I was talking to someone at Future Shop the other day about the deck I have in my car, and wanting to hook up my subs and all.

The deck I have came with the car and only has basic options fade, balance, treble, bass.

Now I havent hooked my sub up yet, I wanted to this weekend, but the guy told me that if I dont have a deck that has a sub control option on it that I could ruin my 6 x 9's in the back...seeing as how they will have the same amount of bass gcoming from them as the sub? I didnt quite understand him...

Anyways, do/should I have a deck with a sub woofer control option in it, instead of just a bass control option?

Oh man, I am so glad that I no longer work at Futile Chop.....

No you will not gaurenteed ruin your 6x9s, but there is a chance that you could damage them by pushing them too far out of the basket, which has nothing to do with having sub control on the deck or not.

What deck do you have? Knowing this, will dictate which way to hook uo a sub.

Agreed, sir!

From personal experience if you do not enclose your rrear speakers you will blow them in short order. I threw my BA Pro 12's in the Neon about 3 weeks ago and last week I heard the Infinity 6x9's shorting out because the presseure from my subs blew them out just like Raven said. I knew it would happen, so I'm not mad about it, since I have fiberglass enclosed MB Quart co-ax's to replace the 6x9's.

Oh and never believe chain store salesmen!
Right now my deck is a JVC 180W KD-S580

I plan on upgrading around christmas time when I get some cash, but this is it for now.

So how would you suggest hooking it up?

And what are you guys talking about enclosing the 6x9s? I mean, obviously the base of the speakers hang down into the trunk, and if I put the sub box at the back of my trunk they will be close to touching...does this matter?

Im a complete idiot at car audio stuff

Let me know what you guys think and can come up with...I greatly appreciate it.
