When i went to change my timing cover on my 3400 i couldnt get the crank pulley to turn, although im not 100% sure if i used a bar or just a normal wrench to try it. If i cant get it loose with a bar should i maybe pop the spark plugs out and spray in some wd40 or maybe just try with the spark plugs out.

Is there any other ways of freeing it up? The engine is out of a 04 alero which had 30000km on it, so i dont think the engine had been sitting TOO long.

Removing spark plugs will help it turn since you're not compressing anything.

i can turn my motor over with a rachet, a j-bar should do it no problem. even with the plugs in there.

I can turn my 3.1 with my hand lol.. but im going to try the bar today and see what happens.

just try not to force it, if there is rust on the cyl walls you can damage the rings if you force it if it turns and hangs up

WD-40 or PB Blaster in the spark plug holes will free it up, also spray some down in the plenum because most likely there is rust on the intake valves as well.

And grab a ratchet and a 15mm socket and start turning on the crank clockwise. Careful not to strip that bolt.

Thing is tho, it only had 130,000 km on it, same as the car

Update: Pulled spark plugs and put in some wd40 and she broke loose and is now turning easily *phew* Had me pretty scared for a bit.

same as v6bluebird's 3.1.. we could turn it over by the crank pully... with the plugs still in it :lol:
