Does anyone out there know how to loose the govenor? I have a friend who has an 89 Z24 Cavalier that has no govenor or rev limiter, and I was wondering if there is anything that I can't take off my car and put it on hers and then take her's and put it on mine. The only difference is that hers is a 2.8 and mine is a 3.1. If it is just the factory chip that I can take is there any difference in the way the cars performe with the chip. I know the engines are not that different, and the cars have the same redline and everything, so what can I do???

Hey, I put a switch in my speedo cable and I was able to trick the govenor. It's sweet, I don't know how fast I am going but I know I went over 200 tonight. It took me about half an hour to do all the work, and I think it will be a great how to once moon gets it up there.

Yes, it can be done. The traditional way is to just get an aftermarket computer chip that disables it. But you can do it by splicing a switch into the vss wire. I have been planning on trying this, but havn't had the time. See these two threads, where it has been discussed recently.

Yeah I got over 200Km, I don't know how fast because when you turn the switch on the speedo doesn't work, but mine doesn't go past 180 KM anyways so it doesn't really matter.

Not quite sure what you were saying there, but your speedo would still work normal until you flipped the switch. If you were going to flip the switch, you know you are going over 110. Knowing just how fast over 110 you are going isn't going to get you out of a ticket.
