I was looking at the front of my '93 sunbird about an hour ago, and came up with a pretty damn good idea. I'm going to remove the plastic bit between the headlights and replace it with a piece of mesh, framed with some tubing of some sort. I think it's going to look great...

The only concern I have about it is that snow/rain/roadsalt will strain through the mesh and corrode my hood latch.
Think this will be a problem? Should I cover the latch assembly with something, or will it be fine?

I just thought of something else, too - will mesh rust? I was gonna get some of that gutter mesh...

No, it shouldnt rust. There are two types and look for the aluminum mesh as opposed to the aluminized steel mesh.
The mesh can always be painted when new, so that shouldnt be a problem.
On the rain, snow and ice thing, just make sure that the mesh is solidly secured to something.
Good luck with it and lets see some pics when your through.

I was thinking about that piece too, but not necessarily putting mesh in. I'm going to hit a junkyard and find another one to play with, and I'm going to cut 45° diagonal slits on either side (I guess like some Escorts, but on both sides). It's different, and I need all the cool air I can get.
