if you are repainting it the same color... you should/might be able to get away with just wet sanding it... you'd wanna wet sand any knicks or scratches out too.... depending on what color your current color is and what color you might wanna change it to, you'd wanna take it down to bare metal and the primer and wet sand the primer.. and then shoot your base coat/clear coat....

hope this helps...

No! Don't sand to metal, that will cause for a more uneven paint job. Any imperfections in the metal will show.

Either way you go you will be fine. If you paint the same color, wetsand the entire car, then scotchbrite over it 3 or 4 times.

If painting a different color, do the same, but make sure when the painter preps the car to get it sealed and primed over.

Any scratches or rough spots wetsand until when you run your finger over it, you can't feel it. If you hit metal prime it, and then wet sand the primer until smooth.

well... i've never had any probs when painting a car that had been taken down to bare metal..... as long as you've done all the necessary body work.. you should be able to have a nice smooth paint job when coming from bare metal..

do you think painting my car would be something that i could do?? i mean i wouldnt go out and start spraying my car.. i would go to the junkyard and pick up and old quarter panel and try that. but is painting cars hard? i painted my trunk lid and i think it came out ok for using paint from a spray can but my body work sucked. and is using a spray gun harder than using paint from a can?

Its hard but not impossible. It takes a lot of skill. You have to keep away from orange peel, "asshole marks", or runs. Its really hard to spread the paint evenly as well.

i hope i can do a good job cuz there is no way i could come up with a few grand to have a shop do it. the only place i could ever afford would prolly be mako(and i heard they suck at painting.) so i figure i will go to the junkyard and get some old car parts and try and paint them and if i suck at it then i will prolly save and go to a shop.

Naw man, do not get maaco, they advertise that crap so people like us would go get our cars painted. They dont even prep your car, they just spray over the exisiting paint. Then like two weeks later your clear will start to slide and the paint will chip, ect. If youre gonna go, go all out.
