stalls if not gassed.... ?

274 Views 8 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  speedemon
well next problem, this seems to be the last prob(hopefully) before the car runs like new.....

now, the car stalls if i dont hold the gas, like rev it up and hold it at like 1000+ i guess, as soon as i let go of the gas, it goes down to die on me...

if i let go of the gas slowley around 1000 it would live, idle normal,,, but otherwise i hafta leave it revved to let it live, help ! ! !

maybe a vaccum leak, but i heard that only gives you shitty idle, not death !! !

is this all the time or only when you first start the car?
Well, assuming your Fuel Pressure is A-OK, the problem is most likely your IAC(Idle Air Control) Valve.

Why? Because remember that when you step on the "gas", all you're REALLY doing is opening the throttle plate and letting more AIR, not gas, into the engines combustion chamber. So, if the car won't idle unless you're foot is "letting more AIR in", than the IAC Valve is not doing it's job, which is to "let more AIR in" for you, especially at idle.

A "vacuum leak" would cause the OPPOSITE to happen. Meaning it would be sucking in MORE air than it needs, not less. So the car would actually idle higher than normal because of the extra air, and would not stall/die.

An extremely common thing that a faulty IAC Valve will cause is stalling as soon as you release the gas pedal while cruising. So try it a few times and see what happens. Go to an open road, get up to cruising about 30-40 MPH or higher, and then quickly and completely take your foot OFF the gas pedal. A lot of faulty IAC Valves will not remain opened and will cause the engine to just DIE right away.

Let us know!:)

i JUST went thro this EXACT same problem and it turned out to be that the computer was bad, .. the eprom was ok, but the actual board was toast, I swapped it out and the car started and ran perfect after that..
where is the IAC valve located ? (i checked the computer and it looks fine.... )

go to this unplug the tcc solenoid cuz it is bad. It should fix it if you choose to repair the solenoid you can it doesnt matter. This happened to me also.

I had that problem happen to me a few months ago (Soup can vouch!! )We tried everything : cleaning the IAC, plenum, changing the fuel filter , and a host of other things. It turned out to be my computer . The circuit board was fried!!! It was messing up my timing and stuff. Try the cheaper things first (like the IAC ).
sweeet, guys thanx for all the support, but it turns out to be that one of the fuckin spark plugs was not pluged in, fuckin sparks flyin everywhere, works fine now, but i gotta deal with a fuckin vaccum leak :D

i'll make sweet love you ya'll !!! :pimp:

by the way, the engine is still being a bitch so i'll check out your stuff too :D
