My 1988 2.8 litre runs ok, idles ok, but when you are stopped at a red light and then try to proceed by giving it a little gas, it dies out sometimes.

The plugs, wires, air and fuel filters, crank sensor and ignition control module are all recent.

Any ideas? Thanks!!

both my lumina (3.1L v6) and cav (also 3.1L v6) does this if im at a stop, then lightly tap the gas, also a few friends of mine it happens to too, i think it might just be normal for our engines, the check engine light goes on, but it doesnt throw a code out,...

Check out your Idle Air Control valve. Do a search for more information about this valve. (search for IAC or idle air control)

I would also clean out the Throttle body. Instructions are in the How-To section.
