I got a question... I got a 1986 Z24 Cavalier (2.8L v6 MPFI). When i try to accelerate, the engine slowly pulls until i pass the half point when i press the acceleration pedal. It doesn't have any improvement in acceleration above 1/2 point. Should i get some fuel injection cleaner? I have already purchased and installed 8.8mm Accel Wires, AC Delco Rapidfire Spark Plugs, and 9" K&N Filter. I have read that crane cams camshaft increases throttle response. I was about to buy me a perfomance coil along with accel's distributor cap and rotor. What do you guys think?

I have already cleaned the TB. But i didn't take the 2 bolts off to clean the back. I did also clean the IAC Plate. There was a little hole in the IAC Plate that leads to the back of the TB. I did spray like half the bottle of carb cleaner in that hole. Do you think i should go ahead and open the TB to the end?

hrm...
If you have already cleaned the TB that much, i wouldnt think it would be having that much effect on throttle response. Have you checked to make sure that all the plugs are firing? Its possible you could have a bad coil. Does it idle fine? How many miles are on the engine?

Well, I have so far 83,000 miles on the car. Which is superb for a 1986 Cavy. The previous owner was an old man who didn't use it much. I bought it for 1000 bucks. Every sparkplug is firing right. I also noticed this tube which goes from the intake to the back of the engine. It is similar to your red tube that goes from your intake hose to the engine. I would have noticed earlier, but the juncture is located quite deep behind the engine. After i securely attatched the tube, the power came back. I guess it is a vacuum tube? Anyway thanks for your suggestions! I will try to get some pics of the tube.

our 2.8 and 3.1 are weak stock from half up ...

WE Must have intake and exausht and whatever you can do to your engine to make more poawer in high rpm's... We gots lots of torques but no "WINE" at top end(like honda's) therefor you have to make the engine "loose" make it breath easier...
They shift at 8.000 or 9.000 RPM amd our 2.8 'n'3.1 max out at 5.500 rpm..... you know?

should i get a new transmission? So far i have a 3 speed automatic (sucks). I was also wondering if i should buy a FASTCHIP? Should i also get a distributor cap and rotor? They say that it increases high end rpm power. Hmmm, well i need to get that trottle body heater bypass hose soon, and also a 160 degree thermostat, my engine is heating up too much. The coolant over flushed when i got home today after a run. I saw that the stock thermostat is 195 degree. Thats HOT! Anyway, you saying i should get a good exhaust?

That would probably be a good idea. You're moving in more air than you're pushing out. Definitely get a chip and a thermo, and look into the fan relay override to help cooling. You really shouldn't have overheated unless you have something else wrong though.
Joe

One other thing you may want to look into: Porting your exhaust heads and the manifolds. You can usually grind them (carefully!!) out to the edges of the gaskets to increase flow without losing too much torque.

How much is a new exhaust system? A real good exhaust system. Should i get new headers also with the new exhaust system? I just noticed that my muffler tips have a few holes in them and they look very thin! There is also a small rock to seperate the two muffler tips from vibrating against each other. The rock is barely noticable, but it does look cheap. I read that if you get a custom exhaust system, remove the resonator to improve flow. How much do you think a custom exhaust system would run?

Thanks

A good exhaust system including muffler, tip, removal of the resonator will cost from 200-500 dollars. Removing the resonator will add more flow. Go to your local muffler shop for the details. Its one of the best investments for any car. Later.
