I'm still riding on the stock 14" rims and 185/70/14's. I want to go with lower profile tires (50-60's) and larger rims (15"-16"), keeping my stance height close to what it is now. How wide of a tire can I safely go to (I'm looking at 205 or 215, 225 tops if an option)... or what have you gone with that works. Also, how do you determine the proper rim width for your tire width?

Hi,

If oyu want to go wider, I've seen cav's with 215's. I would stick to 205's because even they can rub against the inside of the fender when the wheel is turned to it's max. To determine the width, go to http://www.tirerack.com and play around with the different widths and tire sizes.

The stock tire size on the Z's is 205 60 15
That would be your safest size if you go with 15" wheels.

If you want to go larger, and stay close to the stock outer diameter, as to not throw off the speedo, etc, play around with this http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html">Tire</URL> size calculator

215's should fit without any rubbing problems, although 225's may cause some rubbing
