It started after i changed the belt, i purchase a gatorback belt
i thaught it might be the alternator, so i replaced it, BUT IT WASN'T
so i figured it was the power steering pump, so i replaced it, BUT IT WASN'T
anyone else have any ideas?????
I have a 3.1L MPFI, on a 90 corsica LT

Low power steering fluid will cause a whining sound as well. But since you replaced the pump then you probably checked that already so never mind...

if it is a really loud screeching sound then it means the belt is too loose suggesting like brad said that you may have a problem with your belt tensioner. also make sure the belt is in the grooves on the pulley's correctly.

ive never changed one, but id guess the easiest way to get to it would be to remove the wheel and the fender shield and get to it from there. good luck...

You may not even have to do that. I have never removed on on the 3.1's but on the V8's I've worked on it is just the one center bolt that needs to be removed and then the arm will come off. If the bolt is too long, you will then have to remove it from the wheel well.

Another good thing is that I think that is a fairly cheap part from the dealer!
