What's the widest tires that will fit our cars without rubbing?

Without rubbing at all I had 225/45/17's on my car when I had it.
i was thinking of getting 18's 225 with stretched 35 series tires... would those fit? a 92 Z?
Currently i'm running 205/55/16 and i'm lowered with Eibach Pro-Kit (should be approx. 1.25" front, 1" rear)

I'd like to try wider tires for better traction, i.e. switch over to 215/55/16 or 225/55/16

You do realize that 215/55-16 and especially 225/55-16 will be a fair amount larger in diameter than your 205/55-16, yes?

Assuming you get the right width, offset, and tire size, yes.

anyone care to comment on thier 18's I'm planning on looking for some for Christmas, and have no clue what kind of offset requirements our Z's might have. Most of the wheels I've been looking at are 18x7.5's and I've been figuring on 225/35/18's.

I've got Eibach's and GR2's with 16" Beretta Z26 wheels and 205/55's on it now and I've got about a half inch clearance at the inside rear with full steering lock. There's still about an inch and a quarter or so between the top of the tire and the fender.
